From Laem Sok to Bangkok is about 340 km: 20 km to Trat, then Route 3 (Sukhumvit) through Chanthaburi, Rayong and Chonburi, joining Motorway 7 or the Bang Na–Trat highway on the approach to the capital. In normal traffic the drive takes about 5 hours.

You still have to get from Laem Sok to the Trat bus terminal, and the bus to Ekkamai takes 5–6 hours with stops and arrives on the eastern edge of Bangkok — from where your journey to the hotel or airport is not over.
Taxis at the pier work without a meter: the price is quoted on the spot, when you have just stepped off the boat with your suitcases. You cannot book one ahead, and they do not plan around the boat timetable.
