The main gateway to the Andaman Sea. Handles flights from Europe, Asia and charters from Russia to Phuket beaches and Khao Lak on the mainland.
Main exits to the beaches — Highway 402 south and Beach Road west. To Patong via the Patak mountain pass — 35 km, normally 50–60 min, up to 1.5 hours in rain and traffic.
In the rainy season (May — October) the mountain section to Patong and Kata gets slippery — drivers take it slower. Add 20–30 min to the calculated arrival.
Between T1 and T2 it's ~250 metres on foot — a shared courtyard. If the booking has the wrong terminal, the driver will meet you at the one you actually exit — just message the chat.
Opened in 1976, today the second-busiest airport in Thailand after Suvarnabhumi. Two terminals: T1 (international) and T2 (domestic, after the 2016 reconstruction). Located on the north of the island in Mai Khao, 35 km from Patong and 40 km from Karon — the main beaches on the south-west, the drive runs along Highway 402.
