How to get from Don Mueang Airport to Bangkok

Route and travel time

Don Mueang (DMK) is Bangkok's older airport on the northern edge of the city and today the main hub for low-cost carriers: AirAsia, Nok Air and Thai Lion Air. Terminal 1 handles international flights and Terminal 2 serves domestic routes. From arrivals to the city centre is 25–30 km.

The car takes the tolled Don Mueang Tollway and reaches Sukhumvit or Silom in 30–40 minutes under free flow. During Bangkok's rush hours (07:30–09:30 and 17:00–20:00) the drive can stretch to 60–80 minutes — worth padding the buffer for early flights. The Tollway toll is already included in the transfer fare.

Meet & Greet in arrivals

Why not the bus, the train or a street taxi

Buses A1, A2, A3 and A4 are the cheapest option, from ฿30. A1 and A2 run to BTS Mo Chit and Victory Monument, A3 and A4 head to Lumphini Park and Khao San. They run on a daytime schedule, luggage space is tight, and from their last stop most hotels still need a metro transfer or a cab.

The SRT Red Line is a suburban train to Krung Thep Aphiwat (Bang Sue) station. Fast and traffic-free, but only the first leg: at Bang Sue you transfer to the MRT or hunt for a taxi. With suitcases and after a long flight, a two- or three-leg journey becomes an adventure in itself.

An airport taxi from the counter runs on the meter, but on top of that you pay the Don Mueang Tollway (฿80–120 cash at toll booths) and a ฿50 airport surcharge. Some drivers "forget" to start the meter or skip the Tollway to save a bit — at the cost of 2–3 times longer in traffic.
